Verona vs Torino
Despite a brave performance Verona were unable to hold off a sharper Palermo side in Sicily to remain a handful of points above the bottom three. A fine run of form, which includes three consecutive wins, has seen Torino climb half way up the table. I predict a close game, and even though current form is in Torino’s favour, I am backing a score draw.
Juventus vs Milan
Saturday night sees Italy’s two most successful clubs face off in what is expected to be an enticing encounter, as Juve march on towards a fourth consecutive Serie A crown and Milan play mostly for pride. It has been a pretty standard season so far for Allegri’s side, as they have swept aside all opposition. The same cannot be said for the Rossoneri though, as their poorly assembled squad has struggled all season. Home win expected for the reigning champs.
Fiorentina vs Atalanta
Fiorentina take on a stubborn Atalanta side in the early Sunday afternoon kick-off following a hard fought score draw against Genoa in Gamesweek 21. Atalanta showed real fighting spirit and were rewarded when Pinilla scored a late winner to earn three vital points over relegation candidates Genoa. I reckon La Viola will have just enough to win this, with Gomez getting on the score sheet.
Cagliari vs Roma
Cagliari remain just a point above the bottom three and desperately need to start picking up points if they are to avoid a later relegation scrap. Roma’s poor form continued as they were held at home last Saturday and crashed out of the Italian Cup to Fiorentina in their mid-week commitment. The Romans have won just two of their first seven fixtures this year, which has seen them slip seven points behind Juventus. A win is a must for Garcia’s men.
Empoli vs Cesena
Empoli made the most of their chances as their energetic display frustrated a hapless Roma side to leave Rome with a vital point. Cesena suprised all pundits last weekend by downing an in form Lazio side on their home soil and are now just three points from safety. Expect a scrappy game between these two Serie A newcomers, who will probably both be happy to settle for a draw.
Parma vs Chievo
Despite a positive first half display Parma were unable to hold a stronger Milan side at bay at the San Siro and were eventually beat 3-1 on Sunday night to remain rooted to the bottom of the standings. Chievo have shown a lot of fighting spirit in recent displays and were unlucky to lose out yet again to Napoli. This is a critical game for both sides, who linger in the relegation zone. Draw expected.
Napoli vs Udinese
Following a disastrous start to their season Napoli are just four points behind second place Roma following a series of improved performances in recent months. Rafa Benitez’s side will have to be at their best to beat this organised Udinese side, fresh from a hard fought scoreless draw over Juventus last weekend. Home win expected.
Sampdoria vs Sassuolo
Following an impressive season to date Sampdoria were swept away in Torino as they lost 5-1. Sassuolo have also improved drastically following last season, which was their first in Serie A, as they outfoxed a clueless Inter side. Coach Mihajlovic will demand an immediate reply from his men as they look to secure European football next season – home win expected.
Inter vs Palermo
Inter just cannot seem to settle this season, and have been equally poor under both Mazzarri and Mancini. The Nerazzurri have gathered just one point in three outings and are in desperate need of a win in order to secure European football next season. Palermo’s impressive form continued as they beat a tough Verona in Sicily. Even though this is a must win for Mancini’s side I reckon they will have to settle for a draw.
Lazio vs Genoa
Lazio’s superb run of form came to an abrupt halt on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten by an agressive Cesena side. Pioli’s men remained 4th in the Serie A table but are now 5 points adrift 3rd place Napoli. Genoa showed real fighting spirit as they held Fiorentina in an exciting 1-1 draw. Considering Lazio’s congested fixture list and full infirmary Genoa will fancy their chances of earning atleast a point in Rome. I predict a home win.
