Napoli Vs Juventus
The Old Lady dropped two important points on Tuesday night as they drew 1-1 at home to Inter in the “Derby d’Italia”. The reigning champions looked in cruise control as they led after just 5 minutes and had several chances to build on their lead. However, they were left to rue those missed chances as some poor defending allowed Inter to get back into the game. This failure to kill off games will come as a particular concern for Allegri and their back four will need to improve substantially if they are to get a positive result at Napoli. The Sao Paolo is never an easy place to go to and with Higuain hitting form once again, the side that lie 3rd in the Serie A will fancy their chances.
Sassuolo Vs Udinese
These clubs experienced mixed fortunes in midweek as Sassuolo beat Milan at the San Siro whilst Udinese lost at home to Roma. That surprise victory extended Sassuolo’s unbeaten run to 11 games, who now lie in the top half of the table. With a few more victories Sassuolo will cement their place in the Seria A for another season, however I feel both sides will cancel each other out at the Mapei stadium.
Inter Vs Genoa
The return of Roberto Mancini to the San Siro has seen the Neroazzuri playing with more guile and enthusiasm. Although victories remain hard to come by, Mancini will be particularly pleased with Inter’s fighting spirit, characterised by their second half performance against Juventus. Genoa themselves are flying high and both sides will be out to get all three points at the San Siro.
Cagliari Vs Cesena
Gianfranco Zola endured a debut to forget after his side were humiliated 5-0 at Palermo. However, he has got a golden opportunity to rectify matters at the Stadio Sant’Elia against rock bottom Cesena on Sunday. This is a crucial match for both sides in their battle against relegation but I feel the home support will guide Cagliari to victory.
Atalanta Vs Chievo
Atlanta go into this tie against Chievo as favourites following their strong home form this season. The Bergamaschi surrendered a two goal lead away at Genoa in midweek to draw 2-2 but will be confident of all three points and leapfrogging a Chievo side who are directly above them in 16th position in Seria A.
Torino Vs Milan
Milan lost valuable points in their bid to secure the all important final Champions League place after suffering a hugely disappointing 2-1 home defeat. Of greater concern to Pippo Inzaghi however will be the extremely poor shift his players put in on Tuesday. This game in Turin will be a big challenge for the Rossoneri but one which they must win in order to avoid losing more ground on Napoli and Lazio in 3rd place.
Roma Vs Lazio
This is an absolutely monumental fixture for everyone in Rome, the result of which will have great implications at the top of Seria A. Both sides go into this derby following winning starts to the new year but there is a lot more than just three points at stake here. Pride and local bragging rights are up for grabs at the Olimpico on Sunday and both clubs will be keen to ensure they don’t disappoint their fans. Roma closed the gap to just one point behind Juve at the top of the table on Tuesday whilst Lazio maintained their hold of 3rd position following their 3-0 home win over Sampdoria. This will be a feisty affair and over 5.5 cards is a wise bet. As for the score, I’m going for a narrow Roma victory.
Hellas Verona Vs Parma
Parma were rooted to the foot of the Seria A until they earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over Fiorentina on Tuesday. Despite that win however, there are still 7 points adrift of safety and Roberto Donadoni will know the importance of following up that win with another at Verona. The home side are 9 points above their opponents but could easily be sucked into a relegation dogfight if they fail to overcome Parma.
Sampdoria Vs Empoli
Sampdoria lost ground in the battle for 3rd place after suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Lazio. However, the three points are very much there for the taking against a struggling Empoli outfit and I’m backing them to win comfortably.
Fiorentina Vs Palermo
La Viola endured a miserable evening against bottom club Parma on Tuesday night and coach Vincenzo Montella was very critical of his players’ performance. Fiorentina have had a topsy turvy season thus far and have been unable to enjoy any sort of consistency but fortunately for them they are only 6 points off 3rd place. Palermo however, smashed Cagliari 5-0 on Tuesday and will be a tough nut to crack. On this basis I’m going for a draw between these two.
