EPL Week 3 Predictions

What wil the third week of EPL football bring us?

Chelsea, City and Liverpool all registered confident wins again in last weekend’s Premier League fixtures. These three teams have quickly raced ahead of the chasing pack and all look to have started the season in 5th gear. While City and Liverpool were expected to produce Chelsea’s start has been a bit of a surprise given the trouble and discord which engulfed the club only a few weeks before the season kicked off. Manchester United’s loss the Brighton last week will go down as the biggest upset of the Premier League so far. The Red Devils have lost their fear factor, and we begin to wonder whether Mourinho will survive the season, the visit of Spurs in week 3 will only add to the pressure. With that in mind we will do our best to deliver you the best predictions for Premier League week 3. Like always we will include our free betting tips and previews for each match.

Wolves vs Manchester City

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

Wolves’s opponents have so far not managed to end a match with ten men yet they were unable to make the most of their numerical advantage. They find themselves with only 1 point from their first two games and it seems that their season is beginning to unravel quickly.

The Wanderers have lacked a clinical touch in front of goal. Last week they managed 11 shots with only 3 hitting the target, one more than Leicester. Despite having more shots on target, they still lost to Leicester 2-0. They will need to be more clinical if they are to make something of this season.

Manchester City have looked unstoppable smashing home 8 goals in their first two games, conceding just 1. Sergio Aguero grabbed his 13TH Manchester City hattrick and 9th Premier League hattrick, just two short of Alan Shearer’s all-time record. Mendy put in a praiseworthy display at the back even grabbing an assist. If Pep Guardiola’s men carry on in this form its hard to imagine anyone will be able to dethrone them this season.

We are tipping City to march to their third victory of the season at the Molineux.

Correct score: 0-4

Arsenal vs West Ham

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

Arsenal have yet to register a point so far this season and find themselves in 17th position just two weeks in to the new Premier League season. Having lost to City in the first week Arsenal were beaten by the odd goal in five at Stamford Bridge in week 2. With two of the harder fixtures on their schedule now out of the way the Gunners will look to bounce back as the host West Ham for an eagerly anticipated London Derby.

Arsenal completely lack fighting spirit. Their players look alive whenever their team have the ball but fade away when their opponents control possession. They have been happy to back off and allow opponents to play which is no way to win football matches. Emery will need to address his players’ mentality if Arsenal are to challenge for a top 4 spot.

West Ham are also without a win in 2 matches managing just one goal and conceding 6. Last time out they lost to Bournemouth as the hosted the Cherries at London Stadium despite taking the lead in the 33rd minute. The Hammers’ lack of discipline at the back let them down as they gave away too many freekicks, so too did their poor finishing.

Both teams will be looking to register their first points of the campaign which could provide for a cagey affair.

We are tipping Arsenal to bag all 3 points at the Emirates.

Correct score: 3-1

Bournemouth vs Everton

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

The Cherries have got off to a flying start in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign picking up all 6 points from their first 2 fixtures.

Bournemouth showed great spirit to fight back from 1-0 down against West Ham at London Stadium the other week. Despite having less possession they were the most clinical of the two sides. They will hope to carry this form into week 3 as the host 6th place Everton at Dean Court.

Everton stumbled in week 1 when they were forced to settle for a draw against Wolves. Last week they were able to hold on to their lead and secure all three points against Southampton. Marco Silva’s first win as Everton manager ill be remembered as a fortunate one after Danny Ings missed a golden opportunity to eqaulise in the dying minutes of the game. Brazilian striker Richarlson grabbed another goal, bringing his tally for the season to 3 goals already.

Everton will go into this game as favourites but will need to make sure they do not self-destruct again to come away with all three points.

We are tipping the toffess to take all three points at Dean Court.

Correct score: 1-2

Huddersfield vs Cardiff

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

Huddersfield find themselves propping up the table as the languish in bottom place with 0 points and a goal difference of -8 after 2 matches. Their players seem to be playing with led in their boots and they have looked completely off the pace in their first two games.

The lack of fighting spirit displayed by Wagner’s men will do inspire the hopes of their fans for the long season ahead. This fixture represents their first winnable fixtures of the season, but with what we have seen so far we are not sure that is the case.

Cardiff City managed to earn their first point of the season as they hosted Newcastle at Cardiff City Stadium. A stoppage time penalty save by Neil Etheridge has made him a hero amongst the Cardiff City faithful who will be hoping the team are able to pull of a few more surprise results over the course of the season. This fixture now looks like it could tip Cardiff’s way if they continue to display the fighting spirit shown against Newcastle.

We are tipping City to win take the points at Kirkless Stadium.

Correct score: 2-3

Southampton vs Leicester

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

Southampton only have 1 point after their first two matches of the season. Once a side challenging to break the top 4 Southampton are now content with securing Premier League football for another season.

The Saints’ fall from grace has shown the dark side of the modern game, dominated by big teams with bigger budgets forcing sides like Southampton to resort to selling to ensure financial survival.

Mark Hughes will have been happy to see Ings get off the mark grabbing his first goal for the Saints but will no doubt have been left frustrated as he missed a golden opportunity to secure a draw in stoppage time.

Leicester bounced back from their defeat to Manchester United to beat Wolves comfortably at the King Power Stadium. The result was wrapped up before half time as the Foxes went in to the break 2-0 up but the victory was bittersweet as Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy saw red in the 66th minute meaning he will miss the visit to St. Mary’s.

We are tipping Southampton to nip the three points at St Mary’s.

Correct score: 2-1

Liverpool vs Brighton

Kick-off: Week 3, Saturday, 25 August

Liverpool have banged in 6 goals in 2 games without conceding a single goal so far this season. Their strong start sees Jurgen Klopp’s men occupying 2nd place for the moment as they look to improve on last season’s performance. Liverpool are already firing on all cylinders with top performances being put in in every piece of the park. Salah has continued were he left off, Keita has slotted in effortlessly into Liverpool’s midfield and Van Dijk seems to have settled in well over the summer.

They’ll need to retain their consistency which is what let them down lost season as their focus shifted to Europe, but as we said before the season began, Liverpool have bought well and the proof is in the pudding.

Brighton pulled off the biggest upset of the 2018/19 Premier League season so far when they beat Manchester United 3-2 at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton took the lead early on and never looked back cruising to a deserved victory. The score line doesn’t tell the full story as Brighton were deserved winners and their victory never looked in doubt. The win help the Seagulls’ bag their first three points of the campaign and they will be hoping to pull off a similar upset as they had to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

We are tipping Liverpool to romp to victory against Brighton at Anfield.

Correct score: 3-0

Watford vs Crystal Palace

Kick-off: Week 3, Sunday, 26 August

Watford are flying high in 3rd place early in the 2018/19 Premier League season having won both their opening two matches. Javi Garcia’s men have put in two confident displays scoring 5 goals in the process and conceding just 1. Their win last week away to Burnley would have surprised many but European football seems to have begun to take a toll on the Clarets.

Troy Deeney had a fantastic game grabbing a goal and an assist to help the Hornets beat the odds and take all 3 points at Turf Moor. This week they will host Crystal Palace who they haven’t beaten since February 2016.

Crystal Palace suffered their first defeat of the season last week when they hosted Liverpool at Selhurst Park. The Eagles put up a fight but finally succumbed to the Liverpool onslaught. Palace kept on competing even after they were reduced to 10 men but Liverpool found a second in injury time. Palace showed the kind of spirit you need to survive the unforgiving Premier League and Roy Hodgson will be sure to draw on that as he prepares his team for their visit to Vicarage Road.

We are tipping Palace to come away with the points at the Vic.

Correct score: 1-2

Fulham vs Burnley

Kick-off: Week 3, Sunday, 26 August

Fulham have not had a happy return to the Premier League so far suffering 2 defeats in as many games. They were easily beaten by Spurs at Wembley last week and have found Premier League life hard to adapt to so far. This week they host Burnley who will be looking to bounce back from their surprise defeat to Watford the other week.

Fulham just don’t seem to have an answer currently and Jokanovic will need to come up with fresh ideas if his team are going to stand a chance of survival.

Burnley have had a torrid start to the season and the Europa League has proved a bigger distraction than even we anticipated. There were all the signs of a European hangover as they crashed out against Watford at Turf Moor last week. The Clarets travel to Greece on Thursday to face-off against Olympiakos before returning to England for this fixture on Sunday, will they have enough time to recover? Doubt it.

We expect Fulham to pick up their first point of the season at Craven Cottage.

Correct score: 1-1

Newcastle vs Chelsea

Kick-off: Week 3, Sunday, 26 August

Newcastle were held to a goalless draw away to Cardiff City last week which gave them their first point of the 2018/19 campaign. Despite earning a point the Magpies will be disappointed to have not come away with all 3. Despite managing 6 shots on target Newcastle were unable to convert. Their failure to take their chances has cost them early and those 2 points could prove to be important come the end of the season.

Newcastle now host a reinvigorated Chelsea who seem to have found 5th gear as Sarri heals old wounds in the dressing room. The players look to be happier and it seems that a lot of the dissent has been calmed by Sarri’s arrival. Chelsea have managed to score 3 goals in each of their first two matches, beating Arsenal by the odd goal in five last week.

The manner with which they have secured those victories has the Stamford Bridge faithful singing again as they believe silverware is a real possibility once again this season. With hazard looking to be back to their best its definitely within the realm of possibilities.

We are tipping Chelsea to make light work of the Magpies at St. James’ Park.

Correct score: 0-2

Manchester United vs Spurs

Kick-off: Week 3, Monday, 27 August

Jose Mourinho is still reeling from his side’s shock defeat to Brighton at Falmer Stadium in week 2. Paul Pogba has come out and said that the United players were not in the right frame of mind for the fixture and failed to respect their opponents. These comments resulted in a backlash from some of the old guard as Hargreaves, Scholes and Neville all pointed out that would have never been tolerated in the glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Whether those comments were symptomatic of the reported rift between Pogba and Mourinho, or were just an honest reflection on a shocking result the Red Devils will need to get their house in order quick. A loss to Spurs could leave them playing catch up early in the season. Has the lack of signings left United unprepared for the season ahead?

Spurs on the other hand have gotten off to a great start. Pocchettino’s men beat Newcastle in their opening day fixtures and followed that up with a confident victory in their London derby with Fulham. Even more fantastic news for Pocchettino was Harry Kane’s first Premier League goal of the season. Much was said about Spurs failure to bring in any new signings over the summer but that seems to have worked a charm. With teams from other leagues still able to sign players questions surround the future of Toby Alderweireld but the Spurs manager has made it clear he will not be bullied in to selling.

We are tipping Spurs to grab all 3 points at Old Trafford.

Correct score: 2-3
