EPL week 22 predictions

West Ham vs Arsenal

Kick-off: Week 22, Saturday 12th January, 12:30

West Ham welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium to kick-start match week 22 of the 2018/19 Premier League season. The Hammers come into this game having only managed to win once in there last four outings. Defeats to Watford and Burnley in that time would have been very frustrating for the side, especially after the impressive win over Southampton not too long ago. A tough match this, but one you’d like to think they’ll be up for.

It’s incredible how Arsenal are only 5th in the Premier League at this stage. If someone were to tell you that your team is going to go on a run of 22 games without defeat, you’d expect them to be in the top three at least. This just shows the quality of the Premier League. A 4-1 thrashing over Fulham last time out would have put the Gunners in a good place going into this London Derby with West Ham.

A good encounter to get us up and running this weekend. Both teams need all three points for very different reasons which makes it a very difficult one to call. Because we’re struggling to decide, we’re putting this one down as a high-scoring draw.

  • Correct score prediction: West Ham 2 – 2 Arsenal
  • Odds: 20/1

Brighton vs Liverpool

Kick-off: Week 22, Tuesday 12th January, 15:00

Brighton have turned things around in recent weeks after a run of very poor results. The side have now gone three games without defeat, which included draws with Arsenal and West Ham as well as a solid win over Everton in their last game before the new year. Glenn Murray has once again been the man to score the goals for the Seagulls and is getting closer and closer to the record scoring record at the club.

Liverpool will want nothing less than a victory from this game after there first defeat of the season last time out in the hands of title contenders and reigning champions Manchester City. With a front three of Firmino, Salah and Mane all fit and raring to go, you struggle to see Liverpool failing to score this weekend. However, defensive issues are mounting up with Joe Gomez already out, Lovren going off in the FA tie with Wolves and Van Dijk also a doubt.

Although Brighton have been performing a lot better of late, Liverpool have been the best team in the league so far this season and the front three have been dangerous which we think will prove too much for the Seagulls.

  • Correct score prediction: Brighton 0 – 2 Liverpool
  • Odds: 9/1

Burnley vs Fulham

Kick-off: Week 22, Tuesday 12th January, 15:00

A huge game at the bottom of the Premier League with Burnley just two points above the bottom three at this stage of the season. After the heroics of getting to the Europa League last season, not many would have guessed the club would be in this much trouble this campaign. We personally think Burnley will have enough to stay in the league and we think they will win this one this weekend.

Fulham are four points from safety which could extend if they fail to get anything this weekend. There’s no doubt the side have been lifted by the arrival of Claudio Ranieri and from what we’ve heard, some new faces could be arriving at the club very soon. However, there’s only so far good spirit can take a team and with a lack of quality in the team, they will struggle to stay in the league come to the end of the season in our eyes.

Although Burnley haven’t been anything special this season, with them being the home team and in the better form, we think they will bag all three points.

  • Correct score prediction: Burnley 1 – 0 Fulham
  • Odds: 8/1

Cardiff vs Huddersfield

Kick-off: Week 22, Tuesday 12th January, 15:00

Cardiff have lost three and drawn one of there last five games, but the win over Leicester away from home has been enough to keep them above the bottom three, even if it is only by two points. They will see this as a great opportunity to get back to winning ways and more importantly extend the gap between them and the relegation zone.

With Huddersfield already eight points from safety, there is no doubt that this is a must win for the team. If they fail to win this one, they could slip 11 points from safety which even for the best teams in the league would be difficult to do. Huddersfield do have a good fan base who like to get behind there team but as the season goes on the fans will lose faith and hope which will show.

A massive game for both sides which could come back to determine both of there seasons. With Cardiff being the home side, we can see them snatching it but Huddersfield definitely won’t go down in this game without a fight.

  • Correct score prediction: Cardiff 2 – 1 Huddersfield
  • Odds: 16/1

Crystal Palace vs Watford

Kick-off: Week 22, Tuesday 12th January, 15:00

After a very slow start to the season, Crystal Palace look as if they are starting to find there feet. They come into this game having lost just once in there last five matches which has seen the side climb six points above the bottom three which even at this stage looks a massive margin. However, with Palace stuck on just 22 points, they will be desperate to get to the 40 point mark as soon as possible, even though they may not need that many this campaign.

Watford are another side who have lost just once in there last five but do come into this one having drawn both of there last two. This included a 3-3 with Bournemouth last time out which they would have felt unlucky not to win. The side are still playing very well and will have one eye on a top-seven finish which could give them European football next season. Troy Deeney also looks as if he is firing again which is a huge boost for the club.

We can see this being a very entertaining game between two top-class London sides. With both clubs scoring plenty of goals, we think we could be in for some more of the same this weekend.

  • Correct score prediction: Crystal Palace 2 – 2 Watford
  • Odds: 18/1

Leicester vs Southampton

Kick-off: Week 22, Tuesday 12th January, 15:00

With reports suggesting Leicester manager, Claude Puel, is under a lot of pressure, we’re not sure how the side will turn out and play this weekend. They have been very hit and miss this campaign with some superb victories over Chelsea and Manchester City, but have also been poor at times which is why he fell out of favour at Southampton when he was manager down south.

Southampton have been given a boost with the new manager coming in and have got a couple of wins under there belts which has given them a greater chance of survival. The side have played better and been picking up more points away from home over the last couple of seasons which will give them a boost but they know they’ll be well up against it if they are to get anything from this one this weekend.

As we said, Leicester have been very hit and miss this season so this prediction is backing them to be a hit. If Jamie Vardy is playing, they straight away get an advantage in the match with the shaky defence of Southampton.

  • Correct score prediction: Leicester 2 – 1 Southampton
  • Odds: 14/ 1

Chelsea vs Newcastle

Kick-off: Week 22, Saturday 12th January, 17:30

Chelsea would have been left extremely frustrated after failing to beat Southampton in a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. This opened the door for Arsenal to get back into the top four again with the gap closing to just three points. There are rumours Chelsea are in the market for PSG striker Edison Cavani which would bolster the side and could be the end of Alvaro Morata’s spell at the club.

Newcastle have now failed to win in there last four which has seen them slip just two points above the bottom three with a run of tough games coming up for the side. Not too long ago, manager, Rafael Benitez said it would be a miracle if the side stayed in the league with the lack of activity in the transfer windows over the years. His comments are starting to look as if they could come true if Toon get no one in the January transfer window.

Only one winner for us in this one and that’s the home side. On paper, Chelsea are by far the better side, on the form they are the better side and we think they will prove dividends this weekend.

  • Correct score prediction: Chelsea 2 – 0 Newcastle
  • Odds: 10/1

Everton vs Bournemouth

Kick-off: Week 22, Sunday 13th January, 14:15

Everton are in the worst form they have shown all season with four defeats in there last five games and sinking down to 11th in the Premier League. After a huge splash out on players in the summer, you would have expected Everton to be a lot higher in the league and challenging for at least 7th. Although that’s not yet over, they are making it very hard for themselves and another defeat here would make it a very tough challenge.

It’s a good chance for Everton to get back to winning ways this as Bournemouth themselves are in poor form with two defeats and a draw from there last three. Like we said earlier on for the Watford predictions, that draw did come in a 3-3 draw which sore Bournemouth come from behind on multiple occasions to pick up a point which would have given the side a much-needed boost.

With both sides out of form, it’s always hard to call which way they are going to go and for that reason, we’re saying this one is going to end a bore draw.

  • Correct score prediction: Everton 0 – 0 Bournemouth
  • Odds: 8/1

Tottenham vs Manchester United

Kick-off: Week 22, Sunday 13th January, 16:30

Tottenham have done and are still keeping there doubters quite with the side currently sat in third position, two points off City in second and four points clear of Chelsea in fourth. After a summer of no new signings, many thought Spurs would struggle to even get into the top five but up to now the likes of Harry Kane, Delli Alli, Christian Eriksen, Heung-Min Son and co have proven they didn’t need anyone else.

Manchester United have now won five on the bounce since the sacking of Jose Mourinho and more importantly, the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and others have started to perform a lot better which is going a long way. United are currently six points off the top four which is a big gap to close but a win this weekend will give them a much better chance. This is definitely the biggest challenge the side have had under the new manager but one which could go a long way if they can get something from it.

Tottenham have been in good form for what seems like all season. Not one player in the Tottenham team you could pick out and say they’re not good enough which is a great thing for the club. However, with the side who are in the market for Spurs manager Pochettino in town, they could be under a lot of pressure.

  • Correct score prediction: Tottenham 2 – 1 Manchester United
  • Odds: 16/1

Manchester City vs Wolves

Kick-off: Week 22, Monday 14th January, 20:00

Manchester City will not want to make any more mistakes from now until the end of the season and will know if they are to regain the Premier League they may well have to win every match from now until the end of the season which still may not be enough. However, the win over Liverpool last time out which has put the gap to just four points would have given the side a massive lift and one we think they will build on.

Although Wolves lost last time out to Crystal Palace, they have been by far the best side who were promoted last season and will take confidence from the 1-1 draw with the champions earlier in the season. The club took a big gamble by spending big in the summer but unlike other promoted clubs, it has paid off and with the side 15 points clear of the relegation zone, survival looks as if it is all but secured.

With Manchester City back to winning ways and full of confidence, we can only see one outcome in this game. Wolves have been superb this season and will once again prove a stern competition for City, but not strong enough.

  • Correct score prediction: Manchester City 3 – 1 Wolves
  • Odds: 22/1
