Scotland vs Republic of Ireland

Group D has emerged as the most competitive of the Euro 2016 sections, with a four-way battle between Germany, Poland and the two home nations. The Scots find themselves 3 points adrift of the Irish and with Germany and Poland likely to win their respective games, a victory is essential for the Tartan Army if they are to have a realistic chance of qualification. Besides the absence of Alan Hutton, Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has a full squad at his disposal and will be confident of victory in front of the 50,000 Scottish support.

Portugal vs Armenia

Portugal got their qualifying campaign back on track last month following their 1-0 win over the Danes and they will be desperate to maintain their momentum with another win against Armenia in Lisbon. Manager Fernando Santos took over from Paolo Bento six weeks ago and made the bold decision to drop several veterans for the Denmark game and many of his young heroes have kept their place in the squad for the visit of Armenia.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in scintillating form for Real Madrid at the moment and I’m expecting him to be the difference between these two nations on Friday.

England vs Slovenia

England top Group E with maximum points from the opening three games however, despite the string of positive results, their performances have been far from convincing. A lot of empty seats are expected at Wembley on Saturday evening but that is not to say a comfortable home win will not be expected. Slovenia though, must not be underestimated and an away win would see the visitors join the Three Lions at the top of the pile. England’s task has been made somewhat tougher by the fact that the usually immaculate Wembley turf, has been destroyed by an NFL game last weekend and the groundsmen have been working overtime to deliver a playable surface for this Euro qualifier.

Spain vs Belarus

Spain slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat in Slovakia during the last round of international fixtures and the reigning European champions will be keen to avoid another surprise result against a plucky Belarus side. Despite the absence of Chelsea stars Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, I’m backing the Spaniards for a comfortable win in this tie.

Scotland vs England

Celtic Park is the venue for this huge international fixture. This is a rivalry which stretches back centuries and so although technically it is indeed a friendly, I’m expecting a very physical, feisty affair in front of the roaring Tartan fans. Roy Hodsgon has already said that Fraser Forster is in line for his first cap, in a stadium he knows well following his four year stint at Celtic. He may well be joined by another newcomer in Saido Berahino, who will be desperate to make his senior debut after his goal scoring exploits for the Baggies this season. The Scots however, go into this game in buoyant mood having overcome a stern Irish test in their last outing and Strachan will be confident his troops can do Scotland proud.

I can’t separate these two sides, so I’m going for a score draw on Tuesday night.
