Levante vs Real Madrid

Levante entertain one of La Liga’s in form sides in the shape of Real Madrid. The Galacticos endured an unexpected tough start to their league campaign. They are already playing catch up, but Cristiano Ronaldo has inspired his side to go on a run of form with an incredible 3 hat tricks in four games. Levante define inconsistency, and their recent form suggests that they will be no match for the quality of the European champions. I expect Mendilibar to try and organise his side to counter the attacking threat of Real Madrid, whilst hoping to hit Madrid on the break. However, I cannot see past a Real Madrid masterclass, with a couple of goals for Ronaldo of course.

Barcelona vs Eibar

The quality of a European giant lies within their ability to recognise when change is needed. Luis Enrique has been excellent so far, reinventing his side to produce football which suits the ever-changing tactical game. Their perfect home record will remain in tact but I expect Eibar to provide a tougher match then some might anticipate. Their debut campaign has been extremely impressive, especially when considering their limited financial power. The Segunda division winners will be passionate and exciting to watch, but it will be tough against the league leaders who are yet to concede in the league. I expect a tight first half, with Barcelona eventually tiring the Eibar players and winning comfortably in the end !

Atletico Madrid vs Espanyol

This tie promises to be an interesting one. Espanyol are unbeaten in four, but their continuous struggles on the road will be encouraging for Diego Simeone. The league champions must keep up their work ethic and quality from last year, and have impressed me so far, particularly at the Bernabau. However, Atletico Madrid were blown away against Valencia last gameweek, which highlights the serious void that their summer departures have left. Despite this, I’m expecting Atletico Madrid to take advantage of Espanyol’s poor away record and get back to winning ways.

Bayern Munich vs Weder Bremen

After what seems like an eternity, club football is upon us once again. With most of his players away on international duty for the past ten days or so, Pep Guardiola will be relieved to have his squad back unscathed.  The reigning champions endured a slow start to the season but have since found some form with 6 wins in their last 7 games, keeping 7 consecutive clean sheets.

Weder Bremen are currently rock bottom of the Bundesliga and I’m predicting a very one sided game at the Allianz Arena.

Cologne vs Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund slumped to yet another shock home defeat prior to the international break, this time at the hands of Hamburg. Jurgen Klopp’s men have only managed 1 point in their past 4 league games and find themselves lingering in 13th place in the table, just 2 points about the drop zone. That is not to say they are facing a relegation battle this season, but they will need to improve their form significantly if they are to achieve Champions League football for a 5th consecutive season.
Cologne are a point behind Dortmund and with 3 consecutive defeats, I can’t see them taking anything out of this game.

Lens vs Paris Saint Germain

PSG’s inconsistent start to the campaign has left them 7 points behind early leaders Marseille; a big gap to close, even at these early stages of the campaign. The reason behind PSG’s poor start? Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been injured. The Parisians’ dependance on their talisman is somewhat concerning but the good news for Laurent Blanc is that the Swede is available for this game. PSG have struggled on the road this season but with Ibrahimovic back in the starting line up, I’m confident the champions will leave Lens with all 3 points.
