Real Madrid vs Eibar
Are Real Madrid back to their best? I believe so. Following a fantastic 9-1 win against Granada they showed different qualities as they secured a 2-0 win against Rayo Vallecano. The problem for Carlo Ancelotti is that Barcelona seem reluctant to let Real Madrid regain top spot as they keep winning game after game. Real Madrid must just focus on their own football and hope that the Catalan side will eventually drop points. Eibar go into this game following a narrow win against Celta Vigo but I expect Real Madrid to be on top form and secure a comfortable win.
Sevilla vs Barcelona
Sevilla have it all to play for in a tight top four race with Valencia as just one point separates the two sides. Sevilla are a strong side and will be a match for the current league leaders despite a mismatch of individual talent. Barcelona boast a healthy 4 point league and will look at this game as one of the most important of the season in the race for the league title. Having watched Barcelona against Almeria, it shows that they definitely deserve to be where they are at the moment and I am sure they have enough quality and desire to get the job done in Seville. I’m predicting a tight game with Barcelona just deging it.
Malaga vs Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid seem to be stuck in 3rd place but it is important for them to not let their guard down as they risk getting drawn into the champions league spot battles with Valencia and Sevilla. Malaga are in a fairly comfortable position and I do not expect them to be playing with the passion necessary to beat a side with Atletico Madrid’s quality. Atletico Madrid were solid against a decent Real Sociedad team as they raced to a 2 goal lead and held out for 90 minutes on home soil. I expect more of the same this weekend with Atletico Madrid providing their away fans with a laboured victory.
Lyon vs Bastia
Lyon have an advantage of playing in a week where PSG are not featuring. This gives them the opportunity of regaining top spot, albeit by playing a game more than their title rivals. Bastia are not in any danger as they sit comfortably above the relegation zone with not much else to play for besides pride. Therefore, I expect Lyon to have more desire in a crucial fixture in the title race. They go into this game following a comfortable 3-1 away win against Guingamp whilst Bastia suffered to defeat against Montpellier. I expect Lyon to brush Bastia aside at the Stade de Gerland.
Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt
The league is all but won for Pep’s side but he sets high standard for his side and will not let them slip up in any game, especially at the Allianz arena. With one eye firmly on their midweek European tie, it may be a perfect opportunity to cause an upset. However, I expect Bayern Munich will want to gain some momentum prior to trip to Porto. Frankfurt do not have the quality to compete against a side full of world class players and I expect them to suffer as they have done over the last couple of weeks. Comfortable home win expected.
