Brazil were not listed as favourites by many who made Copa America predictions. The Brazil team have been perceived as frail in defence and lacking big players in attack, but their victory against Peru showed that they are still one of the best in the competition.
The performance of Brazil in their opening game of the tournament was almost the exact opposite of Argentina’s. Whereas Argentina dominated from the start and built a two-goal lead, Brazil conceded after only a few minutes. However, Argentina slowly crumbled and gave away their lead, resulting in a draw, but Brazil fought back and gained a late winner.
Thanks to the attacking threat of Neymar, Brazil were able to claw back the goal they conceded within only a few minutes. In previous years, Brazil may have capitulated under the shock of losing in a game where they were supposed to be favourites but they showed that they have the strength and focus that may have been lacking from Brazil teams in recent years.
Brazil managed to get the winner in the last minute of injury time, providing a crucial result which not only provides points on the board, but also proves to the team that they have character and determination, with each player willing to work hard for the team’s success.
After such a great season with Barcelona, Neymar is sure to have a great tournament with Brazil. He now has one goal to his name, an assist and a man of the match award as well as his team showing that they are willing to fight until the last whistle. Argentina’s chances may be fading in the eyes of pundits but Brazil currently seem much more likely to challenge for the trophy.
