The group stage of this year’s tournament was very eventful as almost every game seemed to have its own drama. The scoreline may not always have been impressive but there was always something to talk about. The knock-out phase of the competition is about to begin and there are sure to be many surprising Copa America predictions when it comes to choosing the winner.
Every match in the quarter-finals is interesting in its own way, with a knock-out game taking place every evening between Wednesday 24th June and Saturday 27th June. There are no easy games in this year’s quarter-finals, with many of the big teams having to play one another.
Bolivia versus Peru is probably the least interesting fixture for the neutral but there is an extra dimension to the match as both countries are situated next to each other and share a long and close history. This match will be the most charged and passionate of all the quarter-finals due to their local rivalry.
The big name fixtures will see hosts Chile take on holders Uruguay. Vidal is hoping to overcome the scandal involving his car crash while intoxicated and had even agreed to donate his appearance fee to charity in order to get all of the fans behind him.
Many countries feel aggrieved that Vidal is still part of the tournament as Uruguay and Brazil both have their most influential players missing because of suspensions. Many feel that Vidal’s actions were far worse than either Suarez or Neymar but because it was not a sporting violation his punishment cannot be transferred into a suspension from the tournament.
