Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich
Arsenal welcome German side Bayern Munich to The Emirates on Tuesday evening in the first leg of their Last 16 encounter.
Pressure and criticism regarding Arsene Wenger’s failure to win a trophy in 8 seasons is mounting following a disastrous defeat at home to Blackburn in the FA Cup. Prior to that, The Gunners had won 4 of their last 5 fixtures in all competitions.
Bayern have all but wrapped up their domestic League title and are sitting 15 points clear of Dortmund. The Germans have won their last 5 matches and will come to London brimming with confidence.
Arsene Wenger will be desperate for a home win to take to The Allianz Arena. Given Arsenal’s defensive weakness and the talent Bayern have in the attacking third I can see this game having plenty of goals but no victory for the Gunners faithful.
Milan Vs Barcelona
Wednesday night sees two of Europe’s powerhouses clash at the San Siro, with the star studded Blaugrana side brimming with confidence as they sit 12 points above their nearest rivals in La Liga standings. Milan have also enjoyed a fantastic return of form following a dismal start to their domestic campaign and have now climbed to the all important third spot in the Serie A table.
The Rossoneri have also been boosted by the signing of Mario Balotelli, who has already gelled well with El Shaarawy, having found the net 4 times in his first 3 outings for the club. With Barca’s attacking line including the likes of Messi and Villa, you can be sure that there will be plenty of goals in this fixture, considering that both teams are considerably weak in defence. Even though Milan should not be underestimated, Barcelona should have enough to win this and secure their place in the next round before they return leg at Camp Nou.
Celtic Vs Juventus
After a two month break European top flight football finally returns as Celtic take on Italian side Juventus at Celtic Park. The Bhoys, currently run away leaders in their domestic campaign and buoyed following some exciting, passion fueled European performances at home, including a historic victory over reigning European champions Barcelona, will not be intimidated by La Juve’s experienced side. With the Italian’s aware that away from home Celtic are a different side altogether they might be happy to ride their luck and see out a draw, and await the return leg to see off the Celts.
Real Madrid Vs Manchester United
A mouth watering Last 16 clash kicks off at The Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
Rumours are rife that the Real Madrid dressing room is divided and Jose Mourinho will leave at the end of the campaign. Madrid have fallen well off the pace in La Liga with the Champions League and the Spanish Cup the only chances of silverware this term. Cristiano Ronaldo warmed up for the big match with an impressive hat trick against Sevilla and cannot wait to face his former club. I am certain that a game of this magnitude will galvanise the star-studded Real Madrid team.
United will travel to Madrid high on confidence having opened up a 12 point cushion at the summit of the Barclays Premier League. Fergie refrained from resting big names on Sunday having seen City lose at Southampton. While Madrid pose great attacking threat, United will be confident they can bag a vital away goal to bring back to Manchester.
