Premier League – Big Predictions – Week 34
Chelsea Vs Southampton
Chelsea saw their lead at the summit of the Premier League trimmed to just four points when they lost at Manchester United on Sunday. The Blues have lost two of their last four EPL fixtures and need to get back to winning ways. The FA Cup victory over Spurs will boost confidence in the Chelsea camp. Southampton were unable to make it three straight Premier League games without defeat when Manchester City beat them 3-0 on Saturday evening. The Saints will be clear underdogs in this fixture. Home Win Expected at Stamford Bridge – Back a Chelsea Win Here.
Arsenal Vs Leicester
Arsenal picked up an important 1-2 win at Middlesborough on Monday Night Football to keep their Top 4 hopes alive. The Gunners are still outsiders to secure Champions League football but will be desperate to keep the pressure up. Wenger’s side booked their place in The FA Cup Final with an Extra Time victory over Manchester City on Sunday. Leicester have enjoyed a resurgence in form following the change in management. The Foxes were battling Relegation but will now be eyeing up a Top 10 finish. Home Win Expected at The Emirates – Back an Arsenal Win Here.
Middlesborough Vs Sunderland
Middlesborough host Sunderland which could be a huge fixture in the Relegation battle. Both sides are in deep trouble and only a miraculous run of form would see them avoid Championship Football next Season. Middlesborough will be desperate to avoid the drop and are in slightly better shape than the visitors. The Black Cats seem doomed and are likely planning for next Season outside the top flight. The loser of this clash will almost certainly be Relegated. Home Win Expected at The Riverside Stadium – Back a Middlesborough Win Here.
Crystal Palace Vs Spurs
Crystal Palace have seen a complete turnaround in their fortunes since Sam Allardyce took over as Manager. The Eagles were battling Relegation earlier in the Season but have put together a remarkable run of results to drag themselves up the table. Palace upset many Predictions by winning away at Liverpool on Sunday . Spurs are also in terrific form and have closed the gap on Chelsea at the top of the EPL Table. Pochettino’s side will be desperate to go all the way this Season after missing out narrowly last time around. Their elimination from The FA Cup will galvanise their EPL ambitions. Away Win Expected at Selhurst Park – Back a Spurs Win Here.
Manchester City Vs Manchester United
Manchester City endured a disappointing weekend after losing the FA Cup Semi Final in Extra Time. Pep Guardiola’s first Season in English football looks likely to end without silverware despite high expectations at the start of the Season. Manchester United enjoyed a good weekend by beating Burnley and seeing Liverpool slip up against Crystal Palace. The Red Devils have a great chance of landing a Top 4 berth but need to avoid defeat in the Derby. Score Draw at The Etihad Stadium – Back a Score Draw Here.
Bournemouth Vs Middlesborough
Bournemouth went down heavily 4-0 when they visited Spurs in Gameweek 33. The Cherries are struggling for form at present and are without a Premier League win in their last four outings. Middlesborough are also in poor form but are deep in the Relegation Zone to add to their worries. Boro’ hosted Arsenal on Monday Night Football but were unable to get anything from that match. Home Win Expected at The Vitality Stadium – Back a Bournemouth Win Here.
Hull Vs Watford
Hull were once again beaten 3-1 to leave their Premier League status very much in doubt. The Tigers are only two points clear of the Relegation Zone and need to pick up more points as a matter of urgency. Watford picked up a solid 1-0 win over Swansea in Gameweek 33. The Hornets have won three of their last four Premier League outings and will not be beaten easily. All Square at The KCOM Stadium – Back a Score Draw Here.
Swansea Vs Stoke
Swansea continued their miserable run of form when they were beaten by Watford on Saturday. The Swans remain in the bottom three and need to see their results improve if they are to remain in the top flight. Stoke picked up an impressive 3-1 win in Gameweek 33. The Potters will be keen to string some positive results together in order to secure a Top 10 finish. Stalemate at The Liberty Stadium – Back a Bore Draw Here.
West Ham Vs Everton
West Ham United were pegged back late on when they visited Sunderland in Gameweek 33. The Hammers will be keen to reach the 40 point mark which they could do with a victory on Saturday. Everton beat Burnley 3-1 to boost their Europa League aspirations. The Toffees are in excellent form and will be confident they can get a result from their trip to East London. Away Win Expected at The London Stadium – Back an Everton Win Here.
Burnley Vs Manchester United
Burnley were unable to upset Predictions when they visited Everton on Saturday. The Clarets were beaten 3-1 and face another tricky fixture when they host Manchester United. The Red Devils will be full of confidence after their comfortable victory over EPL Leaders Chelsea on Super Sunday. Jose Mourinho’s side could yet secure a Top 4 finish and will be keen to pick up maximum spoils from this clash. Away Win Expected at Turf Moor – Back a Manchester United Win Here.
Liverpool Vs Crystal Palace
Liverpool took another step towards Champions League football with an important away win at West Brom on Super Sunday. The Reds still have work to do and will be keen to pick up three more points in this clash. Crystal Palace have enjoyed a resurgence in form in recent weeks. The Eagles now look set to avoid Relegation which would be a terrific achievement for Sam Allardyce. Home Win Expected at Anfield – Back a Liverpool Win Here.
Atalanta vs Bologna
Atalanta’s determined performance was rewarded as they snatched a cheeky point at the Olimpico to frustrate Spallett’s side and all but hand the title to Juventus. As expected Bologna were held in Sicily in what was a pretty boring game. The home side should have no problem winning this.
Fiorentina vs Inter
Both these sides are having a season to forgot considering the high expectations last September. La Viola sit in 8th place, four points below Inter who visit Florence fresh from a heated draw agaisnt rivals Milan in which Pioli’s men conceded the equaliser in the 97th minute. The home side will still be trying to figure out how they lost to lowly Empoli last Saturday. I predict a close encounter which will end in a draw.
Sassuolo vs Napoli
Sassuolo’s will be counting their lucky stars as they beat a Sampdoria side who had more than the lion’s share of chances last weekend. Napoli all but secured their Champions League football next season following a 3-0 win over Udinese to move 9 points clear of 4th place Lazio. I am backing Sarri’s men to win in the early Sunday afternoon kick-off.
Milan vs Empoli
Milan left it very late to frustrate Inter and secure a point in what was a great game of football to remain two points above their derby rivals. Empoli provided one of the shock results of Gameweek 32 as they scored a late penalty to win in Florence and move five points clear of the bottom three. The home side should have no problem winning this.
Chievo vs Torino
Chievo suffered probably their most embarrassing loss of the season in Sardinia as they conceded four unanswered goal to continue sliding down the table. Torino were left frustrated on Saturday afternoon when they conceded late on to drop two vital points against 18th place Crotone. Considering both sides recent form, I reckon a draw is the most likely outcome.
Lazio vs Palermo
Not for the first time this season Lazio snatched a point at the death to draw 2-2, in what was a great game of football at the Luigi Ferraris. Palermo couldn’t take their chances, despite playing for most of the game against ten-men, meaning the Sicilians are now 10 points from safety and all but destined for Serie B. Home win expected.
Sampdoria vs Crotone
Despite being the better side on the day, Sampdoria failed to make their chances count and were eventually beaten 2-1 in Sassuolo. Crotone were rewarded for their determination as they scored late on in Turin to snatch a point and maintain a glimmer of hope of surviving in the Serie A. I am backing the visitors to hold out for a draw.
Udinese vs Cagliari
Udinese were completely swept away by a much better Napoli side while Cagliari were ruthless when they knocked four past a hapless Chievo on Saturday afternoon. I predict an exciting score draw.
Juventus vs Genoa
Juventus took a massive step towards their sixth consecutive Scudetto on Saturday by comfortably beating Pescara while closest rivals dropped two points meaning Allegri’s men are now eight points clear with just six games to go. Genoa failed to kill the game off and were punished by a alte Luis Alberto equaliser. Home win for the Old Lady.
Pescara vs Roma
Pescara languish at the very bottom of the Serie A with little hope in site, 12 points from safety as they take on a far superior Roma side in what I expect will be a one sided affair. Away win expected.
Inter vs Milan
Pioli’s honeymoon period seems well over now as his side lost to struggling side Crotone having dropped 8 points our of the last 9. Milan on the other hand have hit the right form just before the derby as they knocked four past a hapless Palermo on Sunday afternoon. I predict a heated game at the San Siro which will end in a draw.
Cagliari vs Chievo
Despite taking an early lead, Cagliari were unable to hold off a rampant Torino side as they eventually lost 2-3. Chievo stood little chance during their Saturday night visit to the Juventus Stadium as they were beaten 2-0 by a far superior Juve side. I expect a close game which will end in a draw.
Fiorentina vs Empoli
Fiorentina played out an exciting 2-2 draw in Sampdoria while Empoli held bottom side Pescara to a 1-1 draw but are now just three points above the bottom three, meaning they have their work cut out for them these next two months if they are to survive Serie A. Home win expected.
Genoa vs Lazio
Genoa were completely outplayed on their travels to Udinese losing 3-0 as their inconsistent season continued. Despite Lazio’s recent good form the difference in class was clear as they swept aside by a far stronger Napoli side to remain in 4th place. I expect the visitors to bounce back.
Palermo vs Bologna
Considering Palermo’s form all season the Sicilians will be extremely to survive the drop come May, their most recent defeat coming at the San Siro, a 4-0 drubbing. Bologna suffered a drubbing of their own at the hands of Roma, however despite the latest defeat still sit 14 points clear of the bottom three and will be confident of staying in the Serie A this season. I reckon the home side can hold out for a point.
Pescara vs Juventus
Drifting nine points from safety only a miraculous run of games can save Pescara now and it’s unlikely to start when reigning champions Juventus visit on Sunday afternoon. Comfortable home win expected.
Roma vs Atalanta
Roma maintained the pressure on league leaders Juventus by comfortably beating mid-table side Bologn, even though many would suspect it’s too little too late for Spalletti’s men. Atalanta’s missed their chance to climb up to 4th but were held at home by Sassuolo. This is a must win for Roma and I am backing them to win it.
Torino vs Crotone
Torino will look back at this season knowing that a slightly better run of form would have seen them qualify for Europa League football, instead they are most likely to finish in a mid-table position. Crotone pulled off the shock result of Gameweek 31 by scoring two goals in four minutes and holding out for a historic win over Inter and also giving themselves a glimpse of survival as they sit just three points to safety. Home win expected.
Sassuolo vs Sampdoria
Both these sides played out respective draws against arguably stronger opponents last weekend, in what has been a pretty poor season for the home side compared to recent seasons. La Samp on the otherhand sit 9th in the standings and will hope to build on this season and challenge for a Europa League place next season. Score draw expected.
Napoli vs Udinese
Napoli all but secured Champions League football for next season with an impressive 0-3 win over Lazio at the Olimpico while Udinese thrashed Genoa at home bu the same scoreline. I can only see one winner on Sunday evening.
Empoli vs Pescara
Empoli were comfortably beaten by a superior Roma side losing 2-0 at the Olimpico while Pescara did just enough to hold Milan for a point however remain 9 points from safety. Time is running out for the visitors and I reckon they will snatch a point on Saturday afternoon.
Atalanta vs Sassuolo
Atalanta we firing on all cylinders on Sunday afternoon as they knocked five past a hapless Genoa side to move up to 5th in the standings. Sassuolo succumbed to the pressure applied by Lazio very late on to lose 1-2 and remain in 15th place. I am backing the home side to continue with their fantastic run of form.
Juventus vs Chievo
Despite being far from perfect and arguably the second best side on Sunday evening Juventus did just enough to leave Naples with a crucial point and still sit 6 points above second place Roma. Chievo’s inconsistent season continued as they were beaten at home by struggling Crotone. Juve to take another important step towards their sixth consecutive Scudetto on Saturday night.
Sampdoria vs Fiorentina
Sampdoria rode their luck and took their chances to pull off a suprise victory at the San Siro over a wasteful Inter side with veteran front man Quagliarella scoring a late penalty. Fiorentina made easy work of a poor Bologna squad and despite the slim 1-0 scoreline were always in control of the match. I predict a close game which will end all square.
Milan vs Palermo
Milan were far from perfect last weekend as they were held on their travels to Pescara, with star goalkeeper Donnaruma failing to control a simple back-pass and gifting the homeside with an early goal. The home side have far more problems to worry about as they were beaten in Sicily by Cagliari and remain seven points from safety. Home win expected .
Bologna vs Roma
Bologna were second best last weekend when they made the short journey to Florence and left empty handed. Roma, despite being far from perfect, made sure they secured all three points with a comfortable 2-0 win over Empoli to close the gap on league leaders Juventus to six points. I am backing Spalletti’s men to win on Sunday.
Cagliari vs Torino
Cagliari came out on top in the battle of the islanders as they outplayed a weak Palermo side to win 1-3. Torino came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw over Udinese in Turin in what has been a pretty inconsistent season for Mihajlovic’s side. I expect a close encounter which will end in a draw.
Crotone vs Inter
The outcome of each sides’ respective results last weekend was quite surprising to say the least as Crotone won just their fourth game of the season in Chievo while Inter suffered their first unexpected defeat under Pioli’s tenure, losing 1-2 at the San Siro against Sampdoria, despite dominating for most of the encounter. I am backing the visitors to bounce back.
Udinese vs Genoa
Despite taking an early two goal lead, Udinese lacked the experience to hold Torino and had to settle for a point. Genoa were extremely poor on Sunday afternoon as they were swept aside by a rampant Atalanta, meaning the Ligurian’s now sit in 16th place and coach Mandorlini will probably be shown the door come May. I expect a home win.
Lazio vs Napoli
Lazio’s impressive run of form continued as their pressure paid off when they scored a late winner in Sassuolo, one of many late winners in recent weeks meaning they are now just four points below third place Napoli. The visitors were superb, if wasteful, on Sunday evening as they applied real pressure on Juventus’ rearguard however failed to make their chances count. I am backing Sarri’s men this Sunday.
Sassuolo vs Lazio
Despite scoring an early goal Sassuolo stood little chance in Rome as Spalletti’s side bounced back to win 3-1 and keep Di Francesco’s men in the bottom half of the table. Front man Immobile could not save his team this time round as they played out a boring 0-0 draw in Sardinia to remain in 4th place. I reckon the home side can frustrate the visitors and hold out for a draw.
Roma vs Empoli
Roma came from behind to down a struggling Sassuolo side 3-1 at the Olimpico while Empoli were close to completing a historic comeback but didn’t quite do enough and lost 2-3 at home to Napoli. Comfortable home win expected.
Torino vs Udinese
Torino will be pleased with their hard earned home draw to Inter two weeks ago in what has been a pretty inconsistent season for Mihajlovic’s side. Udinese further dented Palermo’s chances of survival as they thrashed them 4-1. I am backing a home win on Sunday afternoon.
Chievo vs Crotone
After a very good start to their season, when they climbed as high as a Europa League spot, Chievo seem to be running out of steam as they slowly slide down the standings. Crotone were once again punished by a very late goal as they remain 8 points from safety and are likely to return to Serie B come May.
Fiorentina vs Bologna
Fiorentina were rewarded for their resilience when front man Kalinic scored a very late winner to gift his side three valuable points as they look to book Europa League football next season. Bologna were on fine form before the International break as they beat Chievo 4-1 but despite the win the Rossoblu remained in 13th place. I expect La Viola to win on Sunday afternoon.
Genoa vs Atalanta
After losing 1-5 to Inter two weeks ago Cagliari put on a much more spirited display and were extremely unfortunate to lose in Florence to a 92nd minute goal. Lazio outplayed Torino in Rome to move up to 4th in the Serie A standings. I reckon the home side can hold out for a draw.
Palermo vs Cagliari
The battle of the islanders takes place on Sunday with the Sicilians desperately needing a win to secure their Serie A status and the Sardinians 17 points clear of the bottom three. I predict an exciting game but considering the home sides lack of real quality I am backing a score draw.
Pescara vs Milan
Pescara are another of the newcomers who have not managed to keep up with the pace of the top league and will most likely be relegated in the coming months as they lost their 21st game of the season. A lone goal was enough for Milan to secure an important home win as they were in control for most of the game. Montella’s side to win this.
Napoli vs Juventus
Sunday evening sees the clash between two of Italy’s top sides as third place Napoli welcome run away league leaders Juventus to the cauldron that is the San Paolo. Napoli have paid the price for being inconsistent this season while Juve on the otherhand thoroughly deserve what will unlikely be their sixth consecutive Scudetto. I predict a heated game of football which will end all square.
Inter vs Sampdoria
Inter’s chances of qualifying for Champions League football next season look even more unlikely now after they were held in Torino, while Sampdoria will feel they could have done better after losing to Juventus by a single early goal, in what was a pretty balanced affair. I am backing Pioli’s men to win this.
